OUR BEAUTIFUL ENGLISH MINI ADVENTURE

London-Oxford-Blenheim Palace-Woodstock-Oxford-Ascot-London

For the Easter break we decided to take little Kolya and ourselves for the annual egg hunt at Blenheim Palace. London was on heat and we were ready to escape the city for at least 2 days, which eventually turned into something closer to 6. When we first moved to England back in 1995 my family and I lived in Oxford so I had some idea of what to expect of both the countryside and the beautiful 2100 acre Blenheim grounds but nothing prepared us for the lush isolated landscapes we encountered. It was stunning and so fine! That Friday we stepped through the Woodstock gates to leave Blenheim Palace as the rest were closed and realized that we again were looking at something rather special. A street so pretty, glazed over with wisterias and nice looking folk. We had to stay, so we did for another two days. Back to the Palace- and this time we joined the egg hunt, hung out with baby lamb, climbed trees, ran around trying to catch pheasants who freely walk around like pretty chickens, rode the puffa train 3 times, looked at the butterflies, painted a porcelain dinosaur, ate ice cream, took a dip in some lakes and rivers, swung around on two playgrounds and much more. Ironically, we never saw the inside of the Palace, but it was somewhat of a challenge with a 3 year old.
After Woodstock we briefly stopped by Oxford, took a stroll through the morning University Park and punted down Cherwell river alongside mama ducks and their countless newborn ducklings. We were on our way to Ascot where our dear friend Ksusha lives with her two girls. Thank you darling! for the warm stay and the 7 hour walk through the meadows and finally the lake side. The marvelous food and lots and lots of laughter. It was such a special week. Amazing.
