This time last year we got ourselves together and took off to the shores of California to greet the shimmering light of sunny LA. Everything about LA has mixed feelings. It is the city that is home to my family and the joy of seeing them is always spiced with sadness and sorrow of family legends that run as deep as the ocean. It is the city of best light, and the city of worst smog. It is the city where you are bound by the wheel of a car and yet this desert city smells of home. The bittersweet love I have for LA was sweetened by hope this time round. Hope that it is possible to live there and perhaps love it. I visited LACMA for the first time and it is by far one of the best cultural daycation destinations in the city for the kids. Apart from great grounds, the alluring architecture of LACMA, you get to walk through to the La Brea Tar Pit Museum (and see the tar pits still action!). We visited the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, possibly my favourite place around LA. We managed to ride upto the Getty. Played in the kids room, walked the architecture, saw some art and took in the breathtaking views. We played on the beach and ate some fine seafood by the ocean. We walked the dogs with Zina at Tree People. We watched the fishing boats come in and the men told us stories of wales and fish by the Christmas lights on the pier. We took the kids to Disneyland and Kolya got to be Jedi! The magic never ceases to amaze. We walked round Griffith Park and imagined living there. We visited friends and talked of schools and nurseries. This dream is on my mind!
Greatful.
