When the stars align and we get to leave the city, but we left it too late to make proper plans we drive to Blenheim Palace. This is the place my ma used to take me and my sister back when we were still living in neighbouring Oxford. This place has a memory of my mum being close and perhaps this is the one destination I never cease to get bored of. They have a fabulous deal there, you go once, you buy your ticket and for some ten pounds more they upgrade it to a years pass. Its amazing for the kids, with a real miniature steam train railway, hundreds of freely roaming pheasants, endless miles of woodlands around the lake, an apple orchard you can fall asleep in, a butterfly house, a maze and a mighty playground. It is also the birthplace of Winston Churchill and has an utmost beautiful village of Woodstock by its gateside. A true Cotswold gem. This time round even with the rain and dimmed skies it was so quiet and almost eery yet still so beautiful.
