BIG BROTHER

For the past week or so Kolya has actively started to communicate with his little brother in the belly. He says good morning and wishes him good night. Pats me on the belly whenever he feels the need to connect to him or share something with him.
As we were camping in the lake district this weekend one night I decided to take him to the shower house to have a wash and just as we were about to set off he stopped me and put his hand on my belly: Спокойной ночи братик. Мы скоро вернемся. Мы просто идем помыться. (Good night little brother. We shall be back. We are just going for a wash) There are these really special little moments when time is still and somehow there's a sense of a harmony between all of us. Its fascinating and so easily forgotten. Must keep reminding myself to write. To write and not to forget.
We bought a book and borrowed another to introduce a visual story for what's about to happen and it seems to have really helped him. As Kolya identifies with the big belly that mum has and all the things that we can't do together for now like jumping and running fast: ты не можешь пыгать потому что у тебя животик. (you cant jump because you have a belly)
He seems to be growing closer to the notion of having a 'little brother' (at least inside the belly) and yet when we get to the part of mummy and Sasha going to the hospital for the doctors to help mummy get the little brother out, there is alot of emotion and protest. Maybe because it is something he doesn't quite understand but definitely senses. He is sensing the change but isn't able to deal with the emotions which erupt suddenly. Its an incredibly interesting time to watch him right now. He is growing up. Faster than what I would want for him but that's probably part of our life. Isn't it?
